The NCTH hides codes/treasures in seven cities each year (Grant, Newaygo, Fremont, White Cloud, Hesperia, Bitely, and Croton). The codes correlate to a prize that was donated by a participating business. The start of the hunt is announced on the Facebook page, during a random day in July (The exact date isn't given, so volunteers can hide the codes discreetly).
Treasures are hidden downtown in the seven cities, and the kids' prizes are hidden in parks. The hunt is for all ages! When a treasure is found, it will have a code on it to be entered here. We will then give the winner directions on how to claim their prize, and we will post the winner and the business on our Facebook page.
The Newaygo County Treasure hunt started in 2020 from an idea that a 4 year old child named Nolan Mills had. His mom, Kali Mills, helped make that idea a reality. It started on a much smaller scale. in 2021 NCTH partnered with several businesses to make it a county-wide event; in 2024, there was over 50 participating businesses and 1,500 hunters.
This year the Newaygo County Treasure Hunt has been established as a 501(c)(3) charity, with the intention of growing to an even larger scale each year. It cost a few hundred dollars each year just for gas, advertisements, annual fees/dues, treasures/codes to be made, and it will cost even more if we want to participate in parades, outreach and networking events, create banners, provide more prizes, etc. That is why we have created a sponsor link below. Please check it out. There are perks for the different sponsor levels!
